Maun’s show launched
2026 is the year of making bold moves. This was highlighted by Mining and Technical Exhibitions’ (MTEs’) expansion into new territories, which continues to take shape. The recent debut of the Maun show marked an important step in MTE extending its footprint.

Initially, the show was meant to have taken place at the Khoemacau Copper Mining premises, but due to heavy downpours in the region, mine management advised that the exhibition be moved to a nearby location, even though the team had already set up stands and everything was in motion.
The turnout at Maun was modest. However, the foundation has been laid with an opportunity for growth. “What this showed us is how adaptable MTE is and how volatile the mining industry can be. As a team, we pulled through together, and came in on Saturday to phone our suppliers, ensuring that they were comfortable with the change,” explained the MTE team.
The show still managed to attract senior ventilation department members from the mine, the supply chain department and engineering contractors. “This was MTE’s first show there, and although we faced some challenges, there were lots of positives that came out of it. Also, lessons were learned which will be used to make the next show a much more successful one,” said the team.
Jwaneng
The Jwaneng show delivered a strong performance. With over 420 visitors in attendance, the event saw active participation from both suppliers and mining professionals. Feedback from exhibitors reflected a high level of satisfaction, with many noting the quality of engagements and the relevance of attendees.
The show was supported by the mine, with senior staff members also actively interacting with suppliers. All the stands were buzzing with mine personnel exploring the solutions for underground projects. The Debswana mine is currently expanding from an open-pit to an underground operation, following its USD6-billion investment.
The show, backed by the mines, proves the value that the high-impact show continues to provide for mining companies. The feedback from miners highlighted that MTE brings them suppliers and solutions that cannot be found in Botswana.
“We’re bringing them new products and technology, which is so interesting and exciting, and that no one else currently supplies them. The Jwaneng exhibition has grown over the years to become what it is today.”
Through MTE, the Botswana mining sector is also exposed to reputable suppliers, which creates opportunities for the South African suppliers to build long-term partnerships with mines in Botswana.
Exhibitors got to showcase interactive demos on-site and run competitions as a way of giving back to the suppliers.

MTE welcomed visitors to its inaugural show in the Maun region.
