On 16 October the Lephalale Mining and Industrial Exhibition Incorporating Power Stations brought together key players between the Matimba and Medupi Power Station. This year’s edition marked over 20 years since MTE first hosted an exhibition in the area, symbolising the significant role the platform continues to play in connecting suppliers, decision makers and engineers. This was by far MTE’s biggest show in Lephalale.

Despite the blazing hot weather, people still showed up in numbers, with the 366 foot-traffic recorded an improvement from last year’s 343. From engineers to decisionmakers, attendees praised the event’s steady growth and the value it continues to contribute yearly.

Noticeable was the improvement with the venue from last year’s parched grounds due to water shortages Exhibitors expressed satisfaction with the day’s success, noting both the quality of visitors and the strong engagement throughout the event. Several suppliers hosted exciting lucky draws, adding a buzz of friendly competition, while SME exhibitors, supported by Nedbank, proudly showcased their businesses at their very first expo.

“The area has shown strong support for us, especially over the past three years. This year, we had more senior individuals from managerial positions and decision-making roles visit; notably, the senior manager from Eskom also visited the suppliers,” said MTE’s external salesperson, Sheldon Greybe.

Suppliers were extremely happy with the turnout. Feedback received from operations was that the types of products and services displayed at the expo were lot more relevant to them than it had been in previous years.

Nedbank Simply Biz.

For the first time ever, Nedbank partnered with MTE to sponsor SMMEs at their shows. At Lephalale, they sponsored the Simply Biz Pavilion, a dedicated tent for nine SMMEs. One of the stands within the pavilion featured a Nedbank Regional Banker.

“All of the nine SMMEs were locals from the area, who for the first time got an opportunity to showcase their brand at the expo. For them it was the most exciting thing ever. They got an amazing opportunity to meet decision makers and to grow their business into the area. Not only that, but Nedbank equipped them to be able to better brand themselves going forward. Included in the SMME package that got sponsored, we also were able to get Nedbank to pay for a wall banner advertising their products as well as a pull up banner,” added Greybe.

Most of them were able to sell out their products.

“Everyone placed under that tent, had a very successful day. They were all the right type of SMMEs for this specific platform in that industry,” he said.
