At their core, Strata’s management team and board commit to honest business ethics and place a great emphasis on ensuring that customers are well satisfied with their services. To achieve this, management has adopted the simple virtues of humility, urgency, hunger to work and being people smart to get things done.
Nkosinathi ‘Nathi’ Nkosi, one of Strata’s executive directors and shareholders, shared about his journey that began with his interest in the mining industry. Especially at the beginning of his professional career, Nkosi’s eagerness to venture further into other fields within this industry was evident.
“After I was offered employment in 2003 at an up and coming mining company, I immersed myself in the wonders of the mining sector. I started as a clerk and applied myself beyond what I was employed to do,” says Nkosi. He later received a promotion to the position of an administrator where he also partook in human resource matters.
In 2018, Nkosi met Gawie Vermaak, Founder of the Izintaba Group of which Strata Mining Services is a subsidiary. Gawie offered Nkosi a position in his business, Phakamisa Logistics as it was then known, where he joined to take over the administrative and human resource division for one of their projects.
“Phakamisa began to expand to other provinces and diversified. Gawie was presented with the opportunity to acquire Strata Mining Services and oversee its growth. He recruited me along with a team of people to help him in the process,” says Nkosi.
Nathi’s position at Strata as a director and shareholder comes with the responsibility to give guidance to the management team, tapping into the experience which he has acquired.
Chrisna Basson, managing director of Strata, expressed her respect for Nkosi expertise: “Nathi has extensive experience from various mining operations both on site and within management. Especially in this aspect, he adds immense value to our team.”
Nkosi and the rest of the board at Strata are largely motivated by the responsibility to make wise decisions that will keep the company healthy, and in turn will empower and look after its employees and customers. Their driving force is to lead by example in how they treat each other, their staff and their customers.
