Global mining company Sibanye-Stillwater recently hosted the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy and Department of Health to observe its COVID-19 vaccination roll out programme at its SA PGM operations’ sites in Rustenburg and Marikana.
The Covid-19 vaccine roll out follows the initial phase, which began at Sibanye-Stillwater’s Libanon Clinic in the West Rand in Gauteng.
An additional three primary sites and four secondary sites have been activated following the success of the initial phase. This has resulted in an 85% increase in vaccinated employees with over 8 500 employees being vaccinated in two weeks ago.
A total of over 18 500 employees, representing about 23% of the over 80 000 South African workforce have now received their first vaccine doses.
Vaccination of employees in the mining sector and communities surrounding mining sites will contribute significantly to the government’s goal of national population immunity by February 2022. Sibanye-Stillwater is playing a significant role in the registration and vaccination programme in the provinces in which it operates.
In addition to its vaccination programme, the group is committed to maintaining the safety and health of its employees through the identification, prevention, and reduction of Covid-19 exposure risks.
