This year the anniversary of Mining and Technical Exhibitions’ (MTE) 30th year in business coincided with its popular expo tour in Zambia in the month of September.
Over the past 30 years, MTE has made its mark in the travelling exhibition industry in SADC. The company’s customised high impact exhibitions are well-known across many industries – mining, power, cement, sugar, logistics, port and harbour and paper and pulp – for bringing buyer and supplier together, creating worthwhile networking opportunities and the sharing of challenges, solutions and opportunities for all parties in the value chain.
Andrew Macnamara, operations director, who has been with the company for over 15 years, remembers the first Kitwe expo in 2010. Since then, the Zambian tour has grown to include 3 stops in the thriving copper belt. The travelling exhibition company hosted three consecutive shows within a week, starting with the Kalumbila Expo on 18 September, stopping off at Solwezi on 20 September and ending the tour on 22 September in Kitwe.
Kalumbila
The Kalumbila Expo on 18 September saw 57 exhibitors engage with 295 visitors including an assistant GM, project engineers for the Sentinel Project, mining managers, safety managers and many senior employees and technical staff from Lumwana. Feedback from both suppliers and visitors was particularly positive, with some saying that this expo had proved to be “the best show yet” in the country, characterised by a ‘new dawn’.
Solwezi
Solwezi was an expo with a difference this year – set up on the lush grass of the Royal Solwezi Hotel. MTE had invited key employees from the Kansanshi Mine, from mining, commercial and engineering management to supervisors from all mining disciplines. Decision-maker priorities were focused on plant maintenance and efficiencies this year. Automation and innovations to promote safety on moving parts within the operations were also a recurring theme in discussions had with 57 suppliers and the 213 key visitors.
Kitwe
The tour ended on a high with 512 visitors and 61 exhibitors networking on 22 September. This is always the busiest expo of the week, and this year’s show saw representation from Mopani, KCM, Chibuluma, NFC Africa as well as Limestone Resources in Ndola. Management across all disciplines were present.

Suppliers who exhibited across all three expos were best served, having had the opportunity to liaise with over 1 000 key industry stakeholders, with just a week and a bit of out of the office.
