Sibanye Stillwater: Gold Division Mining & Industrial Expo

The first stop on MTE’s travels was the Sibanye Stillwater: Gold Division Mining & Industrial Expo held at the Kloof Rec Club on 19 October, 2023. The weather played ball and despite the recent restructuring taking place at Sibanye-Stillwater’s PGM operations, 183 players in the company’s gold division attended and networked with 56 exhibitors on the day.

Visitors came from the Kloof and Driefontein underground operations and the Cooke surface mining operation in the area – amongst them a mine manager, engineers and manager of engineering, a plant superintendent, foreman and geologists.

Lephalale Mining & Industrial Exhibition

On 26 October, 2023, MTE then returned with 48 exhibitors to Lephalale, an area is rich in coal reserves and home to the Grootegeluk coal mine and the Matimba and Medupi power stations for the Lephalale Mining & Industrial Exhibition. Despite the 38 degrees heat, 297 visitors arrived on the day with representation from both power stations and the Grootegeluk mine in the area. From the GM: Technical at Matimba to operation managers, engineering managers, procurement officials, supervisors and a foreman – decision makers across the board, including engineers – both mechanical and electrical – met with supplier experts to discuss solutions to current challenges.

Overall, despite the difficult operating environment in the country of late – the month of October was one of hope and resilience in the light of the country’s unity on the back of the Rugby World Cup successes.

Visitors included a cross-section of decision makers – from the GM: Technical at Matimba to operation managers, engineering managers, procurement officials, supervisors and a foreman to engineers – both mechanical and at the Lephalale Mining & Industrial Exhibition, 2023.
