Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE) had an exciting week in Botswana where the three back-to-back combo expos, being Letlhakane, Palapye, and Jwaneng were welcomed with open arms by the diamond and power industry!

The numbers on the days show that MTE’s preparation prior to the expos was bang on. The Letlhakane expo on 14 March boasted 169 visitors, while 226 visitors attended the Palapye expo on 16 March, and 264 visitors were attracted to the expo held in Jwaneng on 18 March 2022. The suppliers on the day did not disappoint either – whether it be a solution for the diamond or coal mines – there were between 40 and 46 stands booked at each expo.

Visitors ranged from mining, engineering and power station managers to safety and procurement managers, foremen on the electrical and mechanical side, and mine overseers – the decision makers – who had everything positive to say. The operational management in the areas made a point of thanking MTE for bringing the sorely missed expos back to Botswana, with one saying, “You have met our needs with suppliers that have addressed our challenges,” and another commenting, “My teams have learnt so much, which will enable them to improve their areas of responsibility.”

Whether it be underground or surface mining, or the power industry, the development in the MTE targeted areas brought visitors through who were eager to make connections and decisions when it came to solving their problems. The journey was well worth it for all stakeholders!

MTE will end March off with the intimate Phalaborwa Mining and Industrial Exhibition on 31 March at Laerskool Phalaborwa Noord (Rooi Skool). Copper and phosphate are the focus for the industry in this area, with emeralds, antimony and fluorspar featuring too. MTE has not been to Phalaborwa since 2019 due to the pandemic, however this expo has always been well-supported by the surrounding operations, and this year promises to be no different.

April will see the team moving on to the western limb platinum belt for their combo showcase on 5 and 7 April 2022, in Mooinooi and Rustenburg respectively. The area has significant platinum and chrome reserves. These expos will offer suppliers a ‘platinum’ opportunity to target visitors from the Sibanye-Stillwater Rustenburg and Kroondal Operations, and the Impala Platinum, Royal Bafokeng Platinum and Glencore mining companies.

The mining industry is ready and waiting for those who are willing to actively market their solutions and participate in the industry which has been hemmed in for far too long!
