AM: Welcome Sellinah, by way of introduction, please share with MTE’s exhibitor companies what your function is at MTE.
SM: I joined the MTE team in November 2023. My key function lies in the domain of marketing and communications for the company. It is my responsibility to create awareness of all our 28 exhibitions throughout the year, including the PR and marketing in newspapers and on radio ahead of an expo or tour.
AM: What do you enjoy most about working at MTE?
SM: I love meeting new people and learning about the industries we serve. We service a vast array of suppliers and end users across general industry and the mining, infrastructure and cement, paper and pulp and sugar industries. These industries are dynamic; learning is therefore constant and there is never a dull moment.
AM: What is the most challenging part of your job at the company?
SM: Scheduling time with exceptionally busy decision makers at operations within the portfolio of end users we serve – from general managers to engineering managers and maintenance managers – is one of the most difficult tasks on my long list of ‘to dos’. It is essential for Andrew Macnamara, our operations manager, to see these high-level individuals – face-to-face well ahead of any show, to enable customizing of the expos to the operations’ needs. Finding time in their hectic schedules is challenging.
What makes it easier and successful, however, is the longstanding relationships MTE has built with the industrial operations in SADC over the past 30 years. This is what speaks a thousand words, when I approach the operations and secure time with the decision makers.
AM: Tell us a little about yourself – what drives you, what are your hobbies and what do you look forward to at the end of a working day?
SM: I am a church going individual. My hobby is my faith, and it is this firm foundation that has helped me to achieve my goals. My passion to learn more and to face and overcome challenges, is what drives me each day.
AM: What are your parting words to MTE’s exhibitors?
SM: We at MTE value or exhibitors and the innovation they bring to industry to help solve the end users’ challenges. It is a privilege to work with our exhibitors and we will always strive to deliver to their expectations.
