A leading South African manufacturer of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) designed for women and a dedicated brand under BBF Safety (part of the Beier Group) – Sisi Safety Wear – is empowering women in industry with tailored safety solutions. The company will showcase an innovative range of women’s PPE at Electra Mining Africa 2024. Sisi specialises in high-quality safety footwear and workwear designed specifically for women, emphasising inclusivity, comfort and protection.

Critical importance of tailored female PPE

Sisi’s participation at Electra Mining is aimed at driving awareness about the critical importance of tailored female PPE in sectors such as mining, electrical, automation, manufacturing, power and transport.

Desiree Hlubi, brand manager for Sisi, comments, “We are committed to setting improvement in safety wear by focusing on the unique needs of female workers. It’s not just about meeting safety requirements; it’s about ensuring comfort and well-being, which ultimately boosts productivity, health and morale.”

Women in Mining Workshop

While Sisi will be showcasing their existing women’s PPE offerings, they are also preparing to launch new styles post-Electra Mining Africa. These new designs are currently in the concept phase and promise to further address the needs of women in demanding work environments.

One of the highlights of Sisi’s presence at Electra Mining is their sponsorship of the Women in Mining Workshop on 3 September 2024, from 09:00–13:00. Hosted by Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA), the workshop will focus on empowering women in mining to drive inclusive growth, innovation and decent work, aligning with goal 8 of the sustainability goals.

“We are proud to be part of such a pivotal event that not only highlights the achievements of women in the industry but also encourages further advancements and inclusivity,” adds Hlubi.

Expert insights on foot health and safety

Dr Anette Thompson, a specialist podiatrist at Sisi, will highlight the critical importance of female-fitted safety footwear at the workshop.

She explains, “Properly fitting safety boots are essential not only for preventing immediate workplace accidents but also for ensuring long-term foot health and overall well-being. Ill-fitting gear can lead to discomfort, fatigue and even injury. At Sisi, our designs address these unique anatomical differences to support better posture, reduce the risk of musculoskeletal issues and enhance overall comfort and efficiency. By incorporating anatomical insights, we create footwear that alleviates common foot problems and promotes the well-being of women in the workforce.”

Thompson’s role as the consulting podiatrist for Sisi Safety Wear is instrumental in the brand’s development of female safety footwear. Her expertise ensures that the footwear not only adheres to safety standards but also provides optimal comfort and support, crucial for demanding work environments.
