An estimated R940-billion will be spent over the next three years on roads, bridges, dams and waterways, to name a few initiatives. “This can only be achieved through joint ventures, by strengthening talent in STEM and making expert stakeholders available in these sectors to lead mega-projects,” says Pinpoint Stewards, a South-African owned conference company and key drivers behind the 4th  Annual Women & Leadership in Engineering, Infrastructure & Innovation event to be held on 12-13 March 2025 at the NH Hotel, Sandton.  The conference aims to bring industries from both the public and private sector together to talk business and build sustainable networks.

The faculty of speakers are specifically selected to harness home-grown talent and prove that South Africa has what it takes to lead locally. The Provincial Minister of Infrastructure, Western Cape, Tertuis Simmers will be adding his voice to this critical dialogue. He will be delivering the keynote address on the day and the Provincial Ministry has also partnered with Pinpoint Stewards to expand the reach of the discussion on the day.

Janice Foster, managing director, Energy, Zutari, will address: How to navigate leadership in an engineering environment by building trust and empowering teams; while Vishaal Lutchman, group chief executive, Gibb will focus on: Giving effect to changing perspective and narrative.

Zandile Pule, senior manager, Asset Optimisation, Strategy and Systems Global, Goldfields will discuss: Including diversity to give your organisation the competitive edge and consistently outperform other innovation teams1 and the topic: Expanding a new generation of women in engineering leaders will be tackled by Retang Sandra Maphothoma, Technologist-Highways, AECOM.

“This fits in with the theme of the conference: Changing statistics in STEM by developing, uniting and empowering more women on your teams,” says Sudhira Sewsunker, co-owner, Pinpoint Stewards. To support this view, Takalani Netshipale, civil engineer, Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Health (Infrastructure), will tailor her talk to: Promoting investments in women-owned projects and building partnerships with public and private sectors towards gender equality.

Other key speakers include: Dr Gugu Moche group exec, Digital Transformation and acting DCEO, Research, Innovation, Impact Support and Advancement (RIISA) National Research Foundation; Natasha Ramkirpal, group lead, Water Security Optimisation, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa; Celeste Le Roux, founder and CEO, React Group and Monique Schmidt, implementation coordinator Engineering & Capex, AB InBev.

Unlike other platforms this conference aims to profile women from all levels in the engineering, infrastructure and innovation disciplines as well as to include men who are giving their support to transformation in industries. The speaker line-up demonstrates that men also play an integral role to play in increasing the numbers of women in STEM fields and careers.
