Pinpoint Stewards is a women-owned conference company on a mission to create a platform that gives visibility to current and upcoming women leaders within the mining sector. The company has organised the annual Women and Leadership in Mining conference taking place from 30 to 31 August in Johannesburg with the theme, ‘It’s DUE: Develop, Unite and Empower.’
Just some of the dynamic women leaders to address the conference and debate the issues of the day are profiled below:
Doubling women in mining by 2025
The Minerals Council South Africa and its members have set stretch targets to double the percentage of women in mining by 2025, towards a 30% to 40% representation across industry with 50% in management over the next decade.
“If industry has committed to the targets in mining by 2025, everyone must play their part to ensure women are acknowledged for their contribution in the sector and this conference will do exactly that – identify future leaders,” says co-owner Sudhira Sewsunker.
A panel discussion on day two of the conference will address the Minerals Council members’ ambitious targets to be met by 2025, featuring three women nominated for the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining 2022/2023. These inspirational women will deliberate on how these targets can be achieved realistically, and include Raksha Naidoo chairperson at WiMSA, Fatima Hayat, human resource manager at Glencore Alloys-Wonderkop Smelter, Mogaleadi Seabela, section manager at Anglo American Kumba Iron Ore as well as Fatima Collins, project manager – Women of Sibanye-Stillwater.
