2024 promises to be a year of great opportunity for Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE) and its valued exhibitors and visitors – “For the first time ever, MTE will be hosting a show on the Moab Khotsong Gold Mine itself! We last hosted a show in the area in 2017, but this year we will be setting up on the mine site itself,” says Andrew Macnamara, operations director at MTE.
Harmony acquired this deep-level mine near the towns of Orkney and Klerksdorp from AngloGold Ashanti Limited in March 2018 and has been producing gold since 2003. The mine is Harmony’s second-largest gold operation, contributing 14% to total group production.1
Performance FY22
The mine plays an important part in Harmony’s portfolio – the company reported that in financial year 2022, “Moab Khotsong was the second largest contributor to operating free cash flow at R752-million in FY22.”
Outlook for FY23
Harmony has stipulated that “with 22 years’ (including Zaaiplaats) life-of-mine left, the focus in FY23 will be to increase mining face length and achieve the reserve grade. Planned project capital expenditure for FY23 related to the Great Noligwa pillars and Zaaiplaats project is forecast at R690-million. Production guidance for FY23 is estimated to be between 204 000oz to 215 000oz.”
“This bodes well for suppliers to the industry with innovative solutions for gold mining in particular. So, if you have not already booked your stand with us, now is the time!” concludes Macnamara.
