Bronkhorstspruit is a town 50km east of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa along the N4 highway towards Witbank. It lies on the border between Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces. The town has an impressive mining sector and an agricultural sector that has significant mining activities.

Black Royalty Minerals launched Chilwavhusiku Colliery, a new coal mine in the town. Chilwavhusiku Colliery is the first mining operation project owned by Black Royalty Minerals. It became operational in the last quarter of 2017 and has contracted Stefanutti Stocks as the mining contractor.
Khanye Colliery is Canyon Coals flagship opencast mine in Gauteng. The mine has a remaining life of mine of 15 years.
Located 37km north of Bronkhorstspruit, Palesa’s production began in 2009 with the initial supply of 4 653 tons to Eskom. In March 2010, Palesa signed an eight-year contract to supply 160 000 tons of coal p/m to Eskom, and in April, an additional 30 000 tons was negotiated.
